About Us
Hi, I’m Natalie, mom to my little boy Oscar, and co-founder of Sensory Truce.
For years, brushing teeth in our house meant tears. The moment the toothbrush came out, he would clamp his mouth shut and turn away. The bristles, the vibration, the taste, the feeling of something in his mouth — it was all too much. I tried everything. Songs, rewards, going slow, letting him hold the brush. Most nights ended with both of us upset, and some nights I just gave up and told myself we’d try again tomorrow.
And it wasn’t only brushing. Haircuts, nails, brushing his hair. Every little routine turned into a battle, and I was doing most of it on my own.
I remember sitting on the bathroom floor after one especially hard meltdown, both of us exhausted, and thinking: Why does something so small have to be this hard?
What I didn’t understand back then is that my son wasn’t being difficult. He feels the world more intensely than most of us. What feels like a gentle buzz to me can feel overwhelming to him. His body was telling him something felt wrong, and he was trying to tell me the only way he could.
So I started looking for products actually made for kids like him. Quieter. Softer. Gentler. And I couldn’t find them. Most were made with every child in mind except mine.
That’s why Sensory Truce exists.
Our first product: Brush Truce
Brush Truce is a toothbrush kit designed specifically for sensory-sensitive kids. Every part of it was chosen with them in mind: how it sounds, how it vibrates, how it feels in their mouth.
But our goal goes beyond getting through tonight’s brushing. We want to help your child, over time and at their own pace, learn to brush their teeth on their own. That’s why Brush Truce will come with our companion app, which will guide your child step by step and turn brushing into something they can feel confident doing by themselves.
Because the real truce isn’t just fewer tears. It’s watching your child pick up the toothbrush on their own.
What’s next
Brushing is just the beginning. We’re already developing products for the other routines that feel like battles: haircuts, nail trimming and more. Next up is Clippers Truce, a haircut kit made for kids who can’t stand the regular clippers. Coming soon.
We’re not here to “fix” anyone. Our kids don’t need fixing. We’re here to help end the daily battles, one routine at a time, and make them feel a little calmer and a little safer for both of you.
If you’re a mom, a dad, a grandparent or a caregiver who’s tired of fighting the same battle every night, I see you. I’ve been there. And you’re not alone.
With love,
Natalie
